We Are More Than One Thing

Last month we sat with all of us and all of it. The hard parts too. The fear and the grief and the very real question of whether it is safe to be seen right now.
We don’t have a single answer to that. There is no one right way to move through this moment. Some of us need to be loud. Some of us need to rest. Some of us need to dance. Some of us need to simply be. All of that is valid. All of that matters.
What we know is this. We are not going anywhere. And we are throwing not one but two parties this June. Because we are not just one thing either.
It is easy to be overwhelmed by the corruption and the darkness and the seemingly never-ending attacks on our community, our cultures, and the fabric of democracy. It becomes harder and harder to find the places where the light comes in.
But it does come in.
Pride started as a protest. It used to be a revolutionary act just to say out loud that you love someone who is gay. Pride is also a promise. A promise past generations made to us and one we need to pay forward to the generations that come after us. It is choosing to see the light. It is choosing to continue to love each other, to be present with each other, in whatever form that looks like for us.
We are more than one thing. We always have been. Look at our neighborhoods. Our family tables. Our own hearts. None of us exactly the same. That is not a problem to solve. That is the whole point.
We are not a melting pot. We are a mosaic. Every piece distinct. Every piece valuable. If we all just faded into some dim diluted version of each other, what a bland world that would be.
We deserve to fully express all of it. And when we come together and let our light shine, what a beautiful sight that is!
We hope to see you at one or both of our June events. Or just out and about enjoying life in the Hill Country. There is a lot of beauty here in June. And it belongs to all of us.
We love each and every one of you. Keep shining. ✨
